When to see it
These events are part of the Spring 2019 season.
Yorke Dance Project celebrates 20 years since it was created by choreographer Yolande Yorke-Edgell. The company is rooted in tradition while leaping into the future of dance, and features compellingly athletic performers. This celebration week features performances of works by Kenneth MacMillan, Robert Cohan, Sophia Stoller and Yolande Yorke-Edgell.
MacMillan’s powerful Playground kicks off the performances on Tuesday 14 May, in its first restaging since its premiere at the 1979 Edinburgh Festival, with designs by his daughter Charlotte MacMillan. The second evening, Wednesday 15 May, features Communion, a special commission from contemporary dance legend Robert Cohan. After the performance, hear Cohan in conversation with his mentee, Royal Ballet Resident Choreographer Wayne McGregor. The final performance, on Friday 17 May, brings these works together with two one-act works: Yolande Yorke-Edgell’s Imprint and Between and Within by LA-based dance-maker Sophia Stoller, a new work set to a commissioned score by Justin Scheid.
