Most recent performance

There are currently no scheduled performances of Plácido Domingo's Operalia. It was last on stage 19 July 2015 as part of the Summer 2014/15 season.

Operalia, The World Opera Competition, was founded in 1993 by Plácido Domingo to discover and help launch the careers of the best young opera singers in the world. It has since become the most important vocal competition, with many of the most famous names in opera past prizewinners and finalists. Previous winners include Nina Stemme, Joyce DiDonato, Rolando Villazón and Erwin Schrott.

In 2015 the competition final comes to the Royal Opera House for the first time. Some one thousand contestants regularly apply to take part, and around forty are selected to participate in the final rounds, held in front of an expert jury of leading opera professionals.
