With the new Season drawing closer, the Royal Opera House is once again looking for the UK’s most passionate and creative students to become our next Student Ambassadors. You don’t have to be an expert in our art forms, but an open mind and desire to communicate about the arts are essential.
Ambassadors are vital in helping us spread the word about our exciting new productions, and raising the profile of opera and ballet in general. Our live Cinema Season brings opera and ballet to cinemas nationwide – so we need students from all around the UK to get involved.
In the last few years, Student Ambassadors have been highlighting the benefits on offer for those registered as ROH Students. Members of our Student Scheme are notified about last-minute ticket deals, enjoy a student-only main stage performance each Season and get a brilliant ‘two for £10’ standby offer on cinema seats.
In return for raising awareness, Ambassadors get a range of ROH exclusives including discounted or complimentary tickets and an invaluable insight into the inner workings of a great arts organization. As well as being great fun, our previous ambassadors have found their time to be an excellent CV enhancement, offering a chance to network with staff at the Royal Opera House and other arts professionals.
Previous Ambassadors have landed great jobs in a range of different roles across the arts. In an industry where it can be difficult to stand out without experience, previous ambassadors have won jobs including as a Marketing Assistant at London’s National Theatre, a Museum and Gallery Assistant at Royal Academy of Music and Music Library Assistant at Glyndebourne.
As well as helping us spread the word about opera and ballet and boosting their CV, Ambassadors are also able to give valuable feedback as to how we can improve our student scheme - our Cinema Student Standby offer of two tickets for £10 was the result of a pitch by one of last Season's Ambassadors.
‘You get a real taste of what it involves to work at an arts organization – it was a privilege to influence the perceptions of students and the policies of the ROH’, says Kizzie Burkett who now works as Account Manager (for clients including the Royal Opera House) at theatre marketing agency AKA.
'Don’t worry if you aren’t taking a degree in something that you feel is "related" to the ROH as they are looking for people from all areas', says Ambassador Francesca Secola. 'Just be honest, passionate and enthusiastic.'
