Welsh mezzo-soprano Samantha Price makes her Royal Opera debut in the 2017/18 Season as one of the ensemble soloists in 4.48 Psychosis.
Price studied Speech and Language Therapy at the University of Reading and gained an MA in Opera Performance (with distinction) at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. She became a Samling Artist in 2013, and subsequently studied on the ENO Opera Works Programme and at the National Opera Studio (supported by English National Opera). She is now a Harewood Young Artist with English National Opera, where she has sung the title role in Iolanthe, Cherubino (The Marriage of Figaro), Kate Pinkerton (Madam Butterfly) and Perdita (the world premiere of Ryan Wigglesworth's The Winter's Tale). Other opera engagements have included Prince Orlofsky (Die Fledermaus) and Tweedle Dee (Alice's Adventures in Wonderland) for Opera Holland Park and Rosina (Il barbiere di Siviglia) for Charles Court Opera at Iford Arts.
Concert highlights for Price include Beethoven's Symphony no.9 with the Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra, Mozart's Requiem for Raymond Gubbay Ltd, a tour of opera highlights with Scottish Opera, the concert programme Mahler in Miniature for the Norfolk and Norwich Music Festival and participation in the Mozart Residency at the 2015 Aix-en-Provence Festival. She has also performed in Mozart's London for Classical Opera and in Shakespeare Live! at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, Stratford-upon-Avon.
