Polish-American video designer and filmmaker Paulina Jurzec makes her Royal Opera House debut in the 2017/2018 Season as the video designer for Na'ama Zisser’s new opera Mamzer Bastard at the Hackney Empire.
Jurzec began her career working as an on-stage video and camera operator for Theatre de la Jeune Lune, The Wooster Group, as video assistant for The Kitchen, New York and as a live video production assistant for the Baryshnikov Arts Center, among other jobs. Her opera credits include Carmina Burana, Maria de Buenos Aires, Figaro and on Juan Giovanni (Theatre de la Jeune Lune), The Rape of Lucretia (Loft Opera), and Persona (Beth Morrison Company). Her theatre and music theatre credits include Hamlet and Who’s your DADA (The Wooster Group) Bat Out of Hell (London Coliseum) and World of Wires (The Kitchen). Jurzec was also Associate Video Designer for House/Divided (The Builders’ Association).
Jurzec is a former Creative Director for Sandton Technologies, San Diego (2015-16) and is currently a Video Producer for Joy Palace Productions, New York. Film credits include Assistant Editor for the feature documentary Without Shepherds (2013), Editor for the award-winning short documentary film Amber (2011) and Editor for the feature film The Seducer (2009). Her debut short documentary film, Dougie, had its premiere at CityVisions, New York (2018). Jurzec was recently nominated for the New York Women in Film and Television Award (2018).
