Nicky Shaw



English designer Nicky Shaw made her Royal Opera House debut in 2007 on the ‘World’s Stage’ gala. She has since returned to design set and costumes for Rossi’s Orpheus for The Royal Opera and Shakespeare’s Globe at the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse and as costume designer for Welsh National Opera’s production of Peter Pan.

Shaw regularly collaborates with director Annilese Miskimmon; their credits together include Jenůfa and La traviata (joint winner of the Renee Stepham Award for Best Presentation of Touring Theatre) for Scottish Opera, Don Quichotte and Kát’a Kabanová for Danish National Opera, Mignon (nominated for Best Opera, South Bank Sky Awards) for Buxton Opera Festival, The Magic Flute, The Diary of Anne Frank, The Coronation of Poppea (all nominated Best Opera, Irish Times) and Alcina for Opera Theatre Company, and Falstaff, L’amico Fritz and Iolanta for Opera Holland Park.

Further credits include Norma (Teatro Lirico, Sardinia), the plays Picasso’s Women (Towel Theatre, Seoul) and Some People I Know (Teatergarasjen, Norway), and the musical Dancing Shadows (Opera Theatre, Seoul, winner of five Korean Musical Awards including Best Musical). She was production and costume designer on the short film Assessment, winner of the Jury Award, Film London’s Best of Borough. Credits as costume designer include Faust (Mariinsky Theatre), Le nozze di Figaro (Polish National Opera), The Rape of Lucretia, Il viaggio a Reims, Il prigioniero, Volo di notte and La Cenerentola (Frankfurt Opera), Medea (National Reisopera), Macbeth (La Monnaie, Brussels) and the musical The Fantasticks (West End).
