Christina Poulitsi



Greek soprano Christina Poulitsi made her Royal Opera debut in the 2017/18 Season as the Queen of the Night (Die Zauberflöte).

Poulitsi grew up in Athens and studied at the University of Athens and the Berlin University of the Arts on a Maria Callas Foundation scholarship. She has won renown for her performances of the Queen of the Night, a role she has sung for companies including Deutsche Oper Berlin, Semperoper Dresden, Hamburg State Opera, Komische Oper Berlin, Lice, Barcelona, Teatro Regio, Turin, Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Seattle Opera, the Bolshoi Theatre, Moscow, Shanghai Grand Theatre, Rome Opera, Greek National Opera and Adelaide Festival. Other engagements include Gilda (Rigoletto) for Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Greek National Opera and Opera di Firenze with Zubin Mehta, Adele (Die Fledermaus) and Italian Singer (Capriccio) for Semperoper Dresden, Manon (Manon) and Lucia di Lammermoor for Greek National Opera and Contessa di Folleville (Il viaggio a Reims) for Rossini Opera Festival, Pesaro.

Concert highlights include appearances with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra and Mehta in Israel and at the Athens Megaron Concert Hall; and the title role in Stravinsky’s The Nightingale at the Stresa Festival with Filarmonica Teatro Regio and Gianandrea Noseda and Mozart’s Requiem on tour in Spain, also with Noseda. Poulitsi was a finalist in Operalia 2014 and won first prize in the Nico Dostal Competition in Vienna. She was named Best New Artist of 2014 by the Union of Greek Critics of Drama and Music for her performance as Gilda with Greek National Opera.
