Biography

Russian mezzo-soprano Anna Goryachova made her Royal Opera debut in the 2017/18 Season as Carmen.?She returns in the 2018/19 Season as Paulina (The Queen of Spades).

Goryachova grew up in St Petersburg and began her musical studies as a pianist, later studying singing at the St Petersburg State Conservatory. She began her career with St Petersburg Chamber Opera. In 2008 she won second prize in the International Galina Vishnevskaya Competition. In 2009–11 she studied further at the Accademia di Santa Cecilia with Renata Scotto, Anna Vandi and Cesare Scarton, and at the Accademia Art Music with Romualdo Savastano. She joined Zürich Opera in 2012, singing such roles as Alcina (Orlando paladino), Zerlina (Don Giovanni), Dorabella (Così fan tutte), Rosina (Il barbiere di Siviglia), Lucilla (La scala di seta), Marchesa Melibea (Il viaggio a Reims), Magdalene (Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg), Pauline (The Queen of Spades), Page of Herodias (Salome) and Taube (Christian Jost’s Rote Laterne, world premiere).

Goryachova’s engagements elsewhere include Paulina for Dutch National Opera, Ruggiero (Alcina) for Paris Opéra, Dorabella (Così fan tutte) for Teatro Comunale di Bologna and in Florence, Rosina for the Mariinsky Theatre, Angelina (La Cenerentola) for Norwegian National Opera, Isabella (L’italiana in Algeri) and Edoardo (Matilde di Shabran) for the Rossini Opera Festival, Pesaro, Melibea in Amsterdam, Copenhagen and Rome, Adalgisa (Norma) for Teatro di San Carlo, Naples, and in Trieste and Riga, Sesto (La clemenza di Tito) for Opera Vlaanderen and Carmen for Opera Vlaanderen, Arena di Verona and Teatro Real, Madrid. She has also sung in opera galas and concerts in Germany, France, Russia, Italy and Switzerland.
