Watch: A first glimpse of The Royal Opera's From the House of the Dead

Krzysztof Warlikowski's new staging will be the first performances at Covent Garden of Janáček's Dostoyevsky-inspired opera.

One of Leoš Janáček's most powerful, humane and inspiring creations, From the House of the Dead receives its first Covent Garden performance next month.

The opera is based on Dostoyevsky’s semi-autobiographical novel describing life in a Siberian gulag and was the composer's final opera. It was first performed posthumously in 1930.

With rehearsals now on stage, the cast and creative team recently took part in an ROH Insight session exploring the opera, and offering exclusive first glimpses at director Krzysztof Warlikowski's vision as well as performances of the piece's memorable score.

From the House of the Dead runs 7-24 March 2018. Tickets are still available.

It is a co-production with La Monnaie, Brussels, and Opéra de Lyon and is staged with generous philanthropic support from Hamish and Sophie Forsyth and The Tsukanov Family Foundation.
